R. Roger McAdams Athletic Endowed Scholarship

The R. Roger McAdams Athletic Endowed Scholarship was established by Mrs. Margaret McAdams in memory of her husband R. Roger McAdams, to provide financial assistance to student athletes. Roger enrolled at SHSU in the fall of 1930 and played both football and basketball all four years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1934 majoring in history. In 1934 he began his teaching and coaching career in various schools, including Colmesneil, Madisonville and Waller. He met and married Margaret Frisby, also a teacher, in 1939. Mrs. McAdams received her Masters of Education degree from Sam Houston State University in 1964. It is the Donor’s intent for the endowment to provide one or more annual scholarship awards each to be announced in the spring and disbursed the following academic year, half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester. Scholarship awards shall not exceed the earnings of the endowment. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
