Templeton Gruy Endowed Scholarship in Education

The Templeton Gruy Endowed Scholarship in Education was established by Mrs. Rae Templeton Gruy in memory of her parents Frank and Thelma Templeton. Mrs. Gruy’ s intent is to promote the importance of education imparted to her by her parents, and to assist today’s “nontraditional” female students who demonstrate that same commitment to attaining an education and becoming teachers, often against great odds. Non-traditional in this sense may be partially defined as follows: The typical non-traditional student may not be a recent high school graduate and may be older than the characteristic student who enters soon after graduation from high school; she may have completed some college hours at an earlier time and made the decision to return to college; or she may have graduated from high school or passed the GED examination some years earlier, been employed in the workplace, perhaps be married with children, although not necessarily, and then made a decision to enter college to pursue a teaching certificate.
