Phyllis Pliske Education Endowed Scholarship
This endowment was established with funds from Terrance Pliske and the Terrance W. Pliske Estate in memory of Phyllis Pliske, his wife, to provide financial assistance to selected students who have met the criteria outlined. Phyllis Pliske was born on February 9, 1932 in Fort Cobb, OK. Phyllis graduated from West Columbia High School in 1948 and started her college education at Sam Houston State Teachers College, now Sam Houston State University. While at the university, Phyllis joined the Philos, a social organization, now known as the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She also was the Sophomore Class Beauty and was named to the Who’s Who of American Colleges and Universities. In 1951, she received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration, with a minor in Physical Education. She began her teaching career in West Columbia as an English, typing, and shorthand teacher. This is truly amazing as she was barely older than her students, but knowing Phyllis, it was also very typical. Never wait for tomorrow to accomplish something that can be done yesterday. Phyllis was indeed a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend but she was, by her own will and determination, a great teacher of your young. Phyllis had three daughters, Dr. Teresa Harris of Satellite Beach, Florida, Lisa Asbill of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Stacey Greco of Willis, Texas, and fifteen grandchildren.
