W.A. and Edna Leake Stubblefield Endowed Scholarship

The W.A. and Edna Leake Stubblefield Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of W.A. and Edna Leake Stubblefield, through their estate, to ensure their legacy would be recognized in perpetuity at SHSU and to provide financial assistance to deserving students. William Andrew “W.A.” Stubblefield was born on September 28, 1885, in the small town of Paint Rock in Jackson County, Alabama. He enrolled in Sam Houston Normal Institute in 1905 and served a tour of duty in World War I from 1917-1918. Edna Adelia Leake was born on May 3, 1889, in the small town of Temple, Bell County, Texas. The pair met after W.A. returned home from WWI and later married in 1922. W.A. and Edna worked as teachers in Victoria, Texas, and later relocated to Houston where W.A. became a successful contractor. They remained in Houston and were married for 38 years.
