Dean & Mrs. W.E. Lowry Endowed Scholarship

Dean Lowry was the State Director of Vocational Education from 1945-1950. His chance to return to Sam Houston State University where he had previously served from 1940-1942 came in 1950. He returned as Director of Public Service and was promoted to Dean of the College in 1951. In an administrative reorganization in 1965, his title was changed to Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. His ultimate retirement from SHSU was in 1974. Perhaps because of its close relationship to public school education, Dean Lowry had a deep belief throughout his tenure at SHSU that the Department of Agriculture held a special niche of excellence within the greater university. He and his wife hoped that in some small way, their scholarship might facilitate the progression through SHSU into positions of leadership in Agriculture for its recipients.
