Mike Mahon Memorial Rugby Endowed Scholarship

This endowment was established in memory of Mike Mahon by his siblings. Mike received a BA in Philosophy with a minor in psychology in 1978. Mike played the game hard, with intelligence, and had great fun while doing so.
Mike would have liked knowing that a SHSU rugby scholarship is established in his memory. Mike’s three sisters and brother endowed this scholarship in Mike’s memory. Our brother, Mike was funny and smart. The five Mahon kids were always very close and cherished fond memories of childhood and summers in Ocean City, New Jersey. Everyone liked Mike. He loved to debate amongst family and friends and could easily argue either side of any issue and of course, he always won. He loved his years at Sam Houston playing Rugby and loved his teammates very much. When our father passed away Mike stepped up to give the eulogy and we were so proud of him. He was a deep thinker and quoted the Bible and Shakespeare often. We loved him dearly and deeply miss him. He is remembered by many and his six nephews still hold dear their uncle “Big Mike” with love.
