The Judge John P. McAdams, Jr. and Dr. LeBland (Farris) McAdams Criminal Justice Endowed Scholarship is established by Dr. LeBland F. McAdams of Winnie, Texas in memory of her husband, John P. McAdams.
Judge John P. McAdams, Jr. was born in Hobby, Texas August 7, 1934 to Rever Starns McAdams and John P. McAdams, Sr. Graduating from East Chambers High School, Judge McAdams attended John Tarleton State College majoring in Animal Science, and minoring in Business Administration. Judge John P. McAdams, Jr. held the office of Justice of the Peace in Chambers County for twenty-five years. He held this office longer than any other judge in Precinct One at the time of his retirement. He was a rancher, banker, business owner, Justice of the Peace and most of all a loving husband to Dr. LeBland McAdams for forty-eight years. He was a father figure to many young people in the community, and his family and friends would be the first to describe Judge John P. McAdams, Jr. as a true Texas gentleman that never met a stranger. Education was very important to him; therefore Dr. McAdams chose to honor his memory by establishing two scholarships for deserving students at Sam Houston State University.
