Chuck Caughey Geoscience Endowed Scholarship

Chuck Caughey spent his career employed as a geologist exploring for and developing oil and gas fields in the US and abroad. During this time, he saw the impact of Petroleum Geoscience (and related fields like Ground Water Hydrology and Environmental Geology) in bettering people’s lives. Mr. Caughey has been fortunate in being able to help students, domestic and international, gain technical and professional skills. He also assisted some students in acquiring scholarships and completing degree programs to start satisfying careers in geoscience and engineering. Sam Houston State University was selected based on strong degree programs in geoscience and other fields in science and engineering and for its working relationship with community colleges in Houston and their students. This scholarship covers the full cost of attending Sam Houston State University (full tuition, fees, books, and room and board) and will provide funding for four long semesters or until the student obtains a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first, as long as the student maintains the criteria.

Each year, top applicants will be selected and a final decision will be made after virtual interviews with each finalist.
