Bill Watrous Endowed Jazz Scholarship

This endowment is being established in honor of Bill Watrous. William Russell Watrous III (1939-2018) was introduced to the jazz trombone at an early age by his father (also a trombonist) and was described as “One of the most gifted and virtually talented trombonists to have ever lived.” He was also one of the best bop-oriented trombonist of the past 40-years, and became virtually a legend in the world of trombone players and jazz enthusiasts the world over. Possessing a beautiful singing-tone and remarkable technique, Watrous was in high-demand in the studios of Los Angeles and as a featured soloist in the United States and abroad.
