David W. Crews Criminal Justice Endowed Scholarship

David William Crews was born in Karnes City, Texas on February 8, 1933. He passed away on February 8, 2015 in Conroe, Texas. He established a law practice in Conroe in July /957. serving the community for over fifty years.
He was a long time member of the Conroe Chamber of Commerce and actively participated in many Chamber activities during his years in Conroe. He was honored by the Chamber of Commerce in 2010, his name placed on the Wall of Honor for outstanding service and contributions lo the community. In 1960. At the age of twenty-seven, David was elected to the Texas House of Representatives from Grimes and Montgomery Counties. He was responsible for introducing important legislation including the passage of bills for the first motorcycle helmet law, photo identification on driver’s licenses, and the change of the minimum driver’s license age from 14 to 16. Another of his far-reaching legislative endeavors was to introduce and champion House Resolution 469 in the 58th Legislative session in 1963. The resolution David introduced ultimately created “one of the largest and oldest criminal justice programs in the nation”: the George J. Beto Criminal Justice Center at Sam Houston h Stale University. Crews said that he would prefer to see Sam Houston known for a criminology program. Matt Crews graduated from the Sam Houston State University College of Business Administration with a degree in General Business. Karen Crews graduated from the Sam Houston State University College of Criminal Justice with a degree in Social Work. Malt and Karen have three children; Branden, Morgan, and Will. After living in and owning businesses in Puerto Rico for several years. they returned to their home of Montgomery in 2002. They own LNC Health Services, Inc. in Conroe which provides home pediatric speech, occupational, and physical therapy. This endowment was created by them in honor of David’s contributions to Sam Houston and to the state of Texas.
