Dr. Herb Schumann Leadership Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Herb Schumann earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education from Texas A&NI University in 1960. He obtained a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration from the University of Houston in 1967 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University in 1972. At Sam Houston State, Dr. Schumann taught vocational education and was responsible for preparing more than 700 students to become certified teachers of vocational agriculture (later agricultural science). He served as the chairman of the State FFA Leadership Contests, he/cl at SHSU. for 12 years. He retired as a professor of Vocational Education in 1996, yet continued on a half-time basis until his full retirement in 2001. Having accumulated a sufficient amount, this scholarship endowment of $40,000.00 is hereby established to support student teachers in the Department of Agricultural and Industrial Sciences. Such student teachers are pursuing certification that will one day enable them to teach leadership and agriculture to high school students across the state of Texas. Naming rights to a classroom in the building that primarily houses the Department of Agricultural and Industrial Sciences will also be granted.
