David S. and Darlene E. Burris Endowed Scholarship

Dr. David S. Burris and his wife Darlene E. Burris have established this endowed scholarship in order to support the pursuit of education in perpetuity. David and Darlene have always believed that the value of one’s life is measured in part by service to the community, and over the years they have taken pride in supporting education at all levels. Dr. Burris has taught at Sam Houston State University in the Computer Science department since 1978, serving as the head of the program from 1995-2002. He also served as the first University Articulation Coordinator and was instrumental in developing articulation programs with other institutions of higher learning. Dr. Burris was the 2000 recipient of the SHSU Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. and Mrs. Burris continue to take pride in supporting the best education possible for their children, grandchildren and others. With this scholarship, the couple wishes to support education well into the future, and hope that recipients will one day give back to their alma mater and their communities.
