Dr. Hal F. Foster, Jr. Journalism Endowed Scholarship

Journalist and professor, Dr. Hal F Foster Jr. reported and edited across the globe and mentored countless individuals in his 53-year career. Hal considered himself’ a Nebraska kid al hear/ and maintained his affable demeanor while editing, managing, and reporting for some of’ the leading dailies in the U.S. and abroad, including as: a business editor and writer at the Los Angeles Times, executive editor al Pacific Stars and Stripes, and special correspondent for USA Today on the conflict in Ukraine. He also held a number of notable academic positions, to include serving as the distinguished Phillip Warner Chair at Sam Houston Stale University and a Fulbright scholar in Ukraine. This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Hal F. Foster, Jr by his son, Daniel Foster. The intent of the scholarship is to inspire students to follow in his father’s example of impeccable integrity and ethics in journalism while pursuing the craft of writing, editing and informing the public objectively. Daniel hopes students are encouraged by what Dr. Foster’s career and life demonstrate-that through hard work, determination, and creativity, there are limitless opportunities and adventures that await us in this world.
