Dr. Dwayne Pavelock & Family Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Dwayne Pavelock & Family Endowed Scholarship was established by the Collegiate FFA and Dr. Dwayne Pavelock of Huntsville, Texas. The Dr. Dwayne Pavelock & Family Endowed Scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Dwayne Pavelock, an alumnus of Sam Houston State University, who served as head teacher educator and professor of agricultural education at SHSU for 21 years. The scholarship is intended to assist student teachers from the School of Agricultural Sciences as they complete their student teaching semester and teaching certification in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. Dr. Pavelock graduated from Sam Houston State University in May 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education. Following graduation from SHSU, Dr. Pavelock served as an agriculture teacher at Dayton High School. During this time, he completed his Master of Science degree in Agricultural Education from SHSU in 1993. In August 2000, Pavelock was awarded his Doctor of Education in Curriculum & Instruction. Following one year of service as the principal of Iola Elementary School, Dwayne began his employment at Sam Houston State University in September 2001. For 21 years, Pavelock was the general superintendent of Texas FFA State Leadership Development Events, Area IX FFA Career Development Events, and the Texas FFA State Career Development Events. Coordinating these events resulted in some 5,000 high school students coming to the SHSU campus every year. In part, these activities led to him receiving the University’s Excellence in Service Award in 2016. Dr. Pavelock also led the effort to establish a degree in agricultural communications in 2015.
