Carol Hail Weller Endowed Scholarship

Carol Hail Weller is a 6’" generation member of the Hai/family, who first arrived in Crockett, Texas in 1832 from Tennessee. Carol Hail followed her sister, Jan, to Sam Houston State University in 1965. She was inspired by her mother who was a gifted seamstress and an accomplished homemaker, Carol obtained a Bachelor of Science with teacher certification in home economics with a minor in history in 1969. While at Sam Houston, Carol was a member of the Pennybacker Club and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. in 1967 she was selected by her classmates as All-College Beauty. After graduation, Carol moved to Houston and taught home economics for a number of years before meeting her husband, Joseph Michael “Joe” Weller, which began a life journey that would encompass the globe, a life that Carol had never imagined while growing up in Crockett, Texas. Carol’s mission to improve the lives of others has positively impacted numerous organizations and communities well beyond day-to-day operations. Carol is an endowed life member of the SHSU Alumni Association, served on the Executive Leadership Council for the Share the Vision Capital Campaign, and continues to be involved with her alma mater and fellow graduates. Carol has been and continues to be a valued supporter of Sam Houston State, most recently purchasing a beautiful painting of General Samuel Houston that she donated to the Sam Houston Memorial Museum.
