Billy and Kathy Smith College of Business Administration Scholarship

This scholarship is being established in memory of Alvin W. Smith, father of Donor, Billy Alvin Smith, to provide financial assistance to selected students who have met the criteria outlined.
Billy Alvin Smith was born in 1957 in Aransas Pass, as the son of Alvin W. Smith and Lucille B. Smith. Billy and his two sisters and one brother grew up in Aransas Pass, Texas and had a happy youth with family and friends. Billy’s parents, Alvin W. Smith and Lucille B. Smith were dedicated to hard work and involvement with their family and community. Throughout his life Alvin Smith continually set an example of success in business for his children with hard work and determination. Upon graduation from Aransas Pass High School in 1975, Billy received a football scholarship to attend Sam Houston State University where he played four years, playing tackle and center under head coaches Billy Tidwell and Melvin Brown. While at SHSU he met his now wife, and subsequently married. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in General Business in 1979. Indicative of their emphasis on the importance of higher education is demonstrated by the many accomplishments of Billy and Kathy’s children. Billy and Kathy Smith wish to express their appreciation for the positive impact and influence that Alvin Smith had on his children and grandchildren in their pursuit of education and respective careers. T1’js scholarship has been established by the Donors in memory of Alvin W. Smith to express their appreciation for individuals that wish to pursue the field of business and to emphasize the value of strong leadership in establishing quality business programs at Sam Houston State University. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
