Anne Gibbs Endowed Scholarship

The Anne Gibbs Endowed Scholarship was established by Ferne S. Frosch, Trustee of the W.S. Gibbs Family Trusts of Huntsville, Texas in memory of Anne Nugent Gibbs, W.S. Gibbs, Sr. and in honor of W.S. Gibbs Jr. Anne married Wilbourn in the Methodist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on June 26, 1900. Anne and Wilbourn had three sons; two died in infancy and the third son, Wilbourn Sanford “W.S.” Gibbs was born in 1909. Wilbourn and his brother Thomas Gibbs assumed the responsibility of managing the family estate after his father died. This extensive family operation remains today as Gibbs Brothers and Company, located on its original site in Huntsville, Texas. Their son Wilbourn Sandford “W.S.” Gibbs was a graduate of Lawrenceville School and attended Princeton University. He was also a graduate of the University of Texas and a member of Phi Delta Theta. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander, serving for the armed forces in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He made major contributions to the City of Huntsville, Sam Houston State University, Huntsville Memorial Hospital, and other institutions.
