Colonel John A. and Geanie L. McManners ROTC Scholarship

The Colonel John A. and Geanie L. McManners ROTC Scholarship was established to award outstanding Military Science Students. John and Geanie McManners have spent a lifetime of service to their country and to Sam Houston State University. While attending SHSU John served as ROTC Corps Commander 1960-61 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation in 1962. He was a soldier for 30 years, retiring in 1992 with the rank of Colonel. Their oldest daughter Shannon and her husband, Tres Hurst, are also SH.SU graduates residing in Arlington, VA. Tres received his commission through ROTC and currently serves on active duty as a Major in the Special Forces. Their youngest daughter, Kathleen, is a graduate of TCU. She and her husband Alex Seleny reside in Fort Worth, TX. John is a native of Huntsville and Geanie is from Freeport, TX.
