Sharon L. and Lawrence G. Edwards Scholarship Endowment
Lawrence earned a four-year football scholarship to attend Sam Houston State University and majored in General Business Administration. He played football for the Bearkats all four years, and pledge Theta Rho Sigma’s first line at Sam Houston State University in the fall of 1977. He graduated in 1978 with a Bachelors of Business Administration. At Lawrence’s high school graduation from Baytown Sterling in 1974, he was awarded a $250.00 scholarship from a family that had lost a loved one. As the first recipient of a family’s memorial scholarship, and as the first generation in his family to attend college, Lawrence was surprised and humbled to receive a financial award towards his college education. As Lawrence grew older, he realized the importance of continuing the financial gift cycle to afford others from his community the opportunity to attend college. To that end, Lawrence and his wife, Sharon, wanted to create a legacy to help students from McNair and Baytown achieve access to a college education.
A recipient must (1) be a full-time incoming freshman in good standing and enrolled at Sam Houston State University; (2) be majoring in any discipline within the College of Business Administration; (3) demonstrate financial need and be a first generation student; (4) have a minimum SAT score of 1030 or a minimum ACT score of 22. Preference will be given to applicants who are from McNair, Texas.
