Boley F. and Betty M. O'Bannon College of Education Endowed Scholarship

Boley O ‘Bannon graduated from Huntsville High School in 1941 and immediately entered Sam Houston State on a football scholarship. Between working at the family dairy, studying for his school courses at Sam Houston, and practicing football, Boley managed to meet the love of his life, Betty Morrison. Boley was a first generation college student and the first in his family to graduate from college. He received his Bachelor of Science in history from Sam Houston in 1949. During his football career at Sam Houston, Boley was a starter on the 1941 Bearkat team that finished as runner-up in the Lone Star Conference. Boley was a great champion/or the Huntsville community. He gave much of his time and talent to serve as a dedicated leader in many of the organizations that have made Huntsville the strong, growing community that it is today. He was a life-time member of the SHSU Alumni Association and the SHSU Letterman’s Association. Betty Morrison graduated from Lamar High School in 1942 and came to Sam Houston State Teachers College to pursue a degree in teaching. She then taught at Sam Houston State University for a period of time before joining Boley at their insurance agency. This scholarship is established in memory of Boley Francis O’Bannon and Betty Morrison O’Bannon. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
