Earl Huffor & E. E. "Pete" Seale Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Henry Earl Huffor was born February 28, 1882 and he married Emma Eugenie Blount. Earl was a professor of English, debate coach, and sponsor of the Debate Club at Sam Houston State Teachers College from 1917-1952. He also served as the head of the speech department, and aided in the organization of three Greek letter organizations on campus. Earl was also the band director and faculty manager of the Sam Houston Bearkat Marching Band. Earl, with the new university president, Harry Estill. proved to the state legislature that state funds were needed to support the program. At a January 8. 1924 faculty meeting with President Hany F. Estill presiding, Earl brought up the question of college colors and recommended that orange and white he designated as the college colors. Earl served as a Texas State Representative for two years for the House District 28. Pete Seale was born to Elbert E. Seale, Sr. and Margaret John Seale on September 10. 1915. He had one sibling. Margaret John Seale. who married Wayne A Hodges. Pete and Margaret were great-great grandchildren of General Sam Houston. Pete entered Sam Houston Stare Teachers College January 30. 1940 and left October 10, 1941 to join the US. Navy. While at SHSTC, he was a member of Pi Kappa Delta: Speech Honor Society and editor of the Houstonian. He was also in the all-male chorus and president of the Huffor Debate club. On February 7, 1913: Ensign Elbert E. Seale of Houston, Texas. was killed yesterday when his plane crashed in shallow water thirteen miles north of Daytona Beach. Fl. He died the day after he had written a letter to his mother.
